Historically, Black Friday is either met with powerful excitement or some incensed groans, and we’re here to explore just what it is that makes this unofficial holiday unique. (more…)

$5 for Jeans Day!

Finnin employees will have the opportunity to wear jeans to work on “Friday Jeans Days” now through the end of the year.   How it works:  Employees wishing to go casual for a cause will pay $5 each Friday for the privilege of wearing their favorite pair of denim jeans all day long.  Every dollar they donate will be collected and given to a local charity to assist families in need.  Just $5 is all it takes to make a difference in the lives of local families here in our community that may need a helping hand.

Finnin Ford is dedicated to community involvement, and seeks opportunities for service.   We’re more than just your local car dealership and service center.  We’re a pillar in the community.  We’re a resource for employment, source for on-the-job training, and initiator for philanthropy.  We’re exceptionally proud to be your local community dealership since 1979.   Through volunteering hours, special events, services provided, and fundraising donations, we’ve been fortunate enough to contribute to organizations such as Hillcrest Family Services, Mentor Dubuque, Resources Unite, Maria House, Theresa Shelter, Dubuque Food Pantry, Shop With A Cop, Dubuque Regional Humane Society, St. Mark’s, and Western Dubuque Booster Club, just to name a few of the organizations we support in Dubuque and the surrounding community.

We know the large impact even one small gesture can have, and we believe we can do our part and more to make a difference.   We at Finnin have the desire to promote the well-being, health, and safety of our communities, and believe that impactful philanthropy can help to elevate our communities into vibrant, supportive networks of businesses and neighbors.  Watch for our employees participating in fun $5 jeans days, as well as our special Winnin’ with Finnin acts of kindness!

Back to School

August is here and for Iowa students, that means it’s time to head back to school. We at Finnin Ford know that the back to school rush can be an exciting yet stressful time for parents, teachers and students alike. However, there are a few ways to eliminate that stress factor, and help with the transition. Take a look at our helpful tips below!

  1. Get Acquainted
One of the key stressors for students heading back to school is simply the fear of the unknown. What is their new teacher like? Where are their new classrooms? Will they have friends and familiar faces to greet them on the first day? Taking the time to tour the school and classrooms, getting to meet their teachers face-to-face, or even getting their locker set up during summer open house events will all help to set your child’s fears at ease.
  2. Get Outfitted
Here the old adage of “being prepared” holds true. Embrace the back to school shopping experience and navigate that school supplies list like a pro! Try to make shopping for school supplies a fun and special event. Ensuring your scholar has everything necessary for a successful school year will decidedly set them up for success. Sticking to the essentials will also help to stay on budget.
  3. Get in a Routine
Every family has their own unique morning and evening routine during the school year, but to help make that first week easier begin establishing those routines a couple weeks ahead of time. Begin enforcing a lights out time, and practice the morning wake-up. Go through the motions of getting up and eating breakfast at what will become the normal time. This will help to make sure that when the time comes, you and your student will be out the door on time and fully prepared on that first day back to school.
Got a student who’s headed off to college this year? Along with those dorm room and classroom essentials, why not outfit your scholar with a new or used vehicle to suit their needs, and get them to and from school safely? New college graduates and those taking 6 credits or more get a $500 rebate from Ford when purchasing a new vehicle, and qualify for special financing through Ford Credit! First time car buyers receive matching cash down (up to $500!) and special financing from Ford.

Meet Curtis Edler

In this month’s featured blog post, we wanted to take a moment to highlight one of our fantastic Finnin team members!  Meet Curtis Edler, our newest Sales Manager.  We sat down and asked Curtis a few questions about his personal and professional experiences, what led him into sales, and also challenged him with a “Why Finnin?” query – take a peek at what he had to say below!

Why do you enjoy working at Finnin Ford?

In my time here so far, I have really enjoyed everyone’s sense of humor. I like the small dealership feel where everyone knows, and helps, everyone out.

What did you do for a living prior to Finnin?

I spent the last 17 years in the car business starting as a salesman, assistant manager, internet manager, finance manager and sales manager.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like a little bit of everything, cooking, video games, watching football, playing with my kids, home renovations.

Most of my close friends are still in Arizona, but we moved back to be closer to my family. My parents and two of my brothers still live in the area. We usually just end up hanging out at one of our houses around the kitchen table or bonfire.

Where are you from?

I grew up I Lena, IL, about an hour east of Dubuque, until I was 19, then moved to Arizona for the last 17 years. I just moved back in June.

What do you love about Dubuque?

I haven’t spent much time in Dubuque outside of work, but the 4th of July fireworks were pretty awesome. Aside from that, I do love the hills, lots of green and the River.  I have also enjoyed a lot of the summer programs in Lena for my kids so far.
